Hello – we're Humblewood

we make stuff...

image

it's just us, the wood and a splash of colour...

We love wood; it's a fantastic, versatile and beautiful material. And historically, it's one of mankind's most widely used natural, sustainable resources. We like colour too. Oh, and we like simple; simple suits us! So, we had an idea...

What if we combined all three?

So we set to work in our tiny workshop in Cumbria's beautiful Eden Valley, to design and make a range of home and gift wares. Designer-maker Bob Bryant, ably assisted by sister Eunice, works with sustainably-sourced native hardwoods – particularly Ash, Beech and Oak – to hand-craft our goods.

Our first 'proper' product was the All-in-a-row vase. Originally intended to be an alternative to the traditional 'pot' vase, it turned out to be especially suited to the narrow windowsills found in homes with sash windows. Due to it's narrow shape, the All-in-a-row vase also makes a brilliant table centre – we've made them up to 1m long, with 21 flower inserts, which look fantastic!

Other designs, such as the Posy vase, which leans forwards as if presenting the flowers to the viewer soon followed.

Humblewood's product range is constantly evolving as new ideas are developed; recent additions include an expanded clock range, lamps and chopping boards among others.

In July 2018 we took the decision to stop selling online in order to concentrate on supporting the shops and galleries that stock Humblewood – some of which do have their own online shops. To find your nearest stockist, please see our Retailers page. If they don't have what you want in stock, they will be more than happy to order it for you.

Why 'Humblewood'?

Wood is often seen as the humble cousin of more valued materials such as glass, ceramics and precious metals. But we love British hardwoods and mainly create our products using Ash for it's often amazing grain patterns – after all, nature is the best artist.
So, while what we make is hopefully beautiful, well made and useful, our items are really quite 'humble' objects. And 'wood' just because we love working with it. Simple!

made in Britain logoHumblewood's items are designed and created by us using sustainable hardwoods, sourced from within the UK. As far as possible, we make use of windblown or damaged trees.

We support tree planting and the use of sustainably-sourced timber in the UK via organisations such as The Woodland Trust and Woodland Heritage.

We are proud supporters of the Just a Card campaign, which aims to encourage people to buy from Independent Galleries, Shops and Designer/Makers. The campaign promotes the message that all purchases, however small – even 'just a card' – are vital to the prosperity, perhaps even the survival, of small businesses.
